HOW TO ACCELERATE STUDENT ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE?

Posted December 16th, 2020

The first thing you need to do is teach students how to stop reading textbooks like novels. Most students do not know how to effectively read textbooks. It’s very different than reading a novel. Reading a textbook is more tactical. Every textbook has an organizational convention that enables you to scope out the content before you begin reading and taking notes. This way, you can visualize the format of your notes upfront before the note-taking process begins. Students should use a computer to take notes because it provides more attributing when separating what’s important from what’s not important in a textbook. Important information needs to be summarized into concise bullets and arranged into a hierarchical outline so you can anticipate test questions. Indentation and marginalia provide critical space to put images and pictorials next to the bullets. This technique uses the ‘whole brain’ and stores that information in the long-term memory for recall on high-stakes tests. High test scores result in better grades and higher GPAs.
