WHAT ARE EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SKILLS AND WHY ARE THEY SO IMPORTANT?
Educational foundation skills include: reading fluency and comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, proven study and learning strategies, effective note-taking techniques, writing skills, time management and the ability to store important information in long-term memory and recall it during high-stakes tests. Mastery of these basic foundation skills is achieved through practice and creates the solid foundation and support systems students need to develop the confidence and knowledge to be successful in high school, college, and demanding careers. The average high school student takes about 300 tests during grades 9-12, but in most cases, they are not being taught how to study effectively for those tests. SQ3R is the most effective learning strategy ever developed and recommended by most of the Top 100 Best Colleges in the country. We’ve added computer technology and ‘whole brain’ memory techniques to bring SQ3R up into the 21st Century. SQ3R-based learning methods provide the basic foundation skills students need to excel and should be included in every schools’ program of studies beginning in the elementary grades and reinforced from year to year until they graduate. Unfortunately, that is not the case and many students are struggling and failing academically, which creates terrible stress and negatively impacts their grades, GPA and self-esteem.
