WHY STUDENTS NEED ‘WHOLE BRAIN’ LEARNING TECHNIQUES AND STRATEGY
In today’s competitive world, students need to be taught how to use their whole brain to remember important information longer and recall it during high-stakes tests in high school and college. Learning how to use both sides of their brain when studying enables students to store critical information in their secondary (long-term) memory and score higher marks on tests. This is a strategic skill often taught in sales training programs because salespeople have to learn and remember a lot of related information to win a big-ticket sale. This is accomplished by associating images with written information. The research was done on left-brain right-brain memory techniques, also called Split-Brain experimentation, during the 1960-70’s at CalTech by Dr. Roger W. Sperry who received the 1981 Noble Prize in Medicine for his pioneering work on the functionality of the hemispheres of the human brain. We’ve incorporated this research into our proprietary study skills program called 21st Century Study Skills, or SQ4R.
